about
Supporting Children, Young People and Families Early
Families are more likely to seek support before challenges escalate when they feel safe, respected and able to ask for help without fear of judgement. Drawing on practice experience, parent voices and practitioner training, this submission argues that trust is the foundation of effective prevention and family support.
The submission recommends practical reforms including stronger active efforts, self-referral pathways, improved service coordination, and greater investment in relationship-based practice.
It also calls for better access to practical supports such as housing, transport, food and childcare, alongside measures that focus on families’ experiences of support, not just service activity.
